ABOUT US
WCDP works with Community Based Organizations (CBOs) in developing countries. Currently we are working with two villages in Uganda. Our goal is to help communities to help themselves.
WCDP works with communities to help them achieve their own goals. We do not presume to know what is best for them, or even how best to solve local problems. We believe the members of the community know best what they need, and what they need to do to get there.
WCDP has basic founding principles. We believe community development must be driven by the grassroots, by the people who live in the community.
We believe that it is not simply about building schools and clinics and providing water pumps, but that it is about whole community development across all sectors - health, education, infrastructure, agriculture, and business development.
We believe in the importance of sustainability and environmental consciousness, while also supporting equality and justice for all.
WCDP was founded in 2003 by a former Peace Corps Volunteer who was based in Uganda. We achieved 501(c)3 tax exempt status in 2008.
